MLG Winter Championship

This spring break, thousands of gamers from across the world came to Dallas, TX for Major League Gaming's 2013 Winter Championship. They competed in three major game titles for over $140,000 in prize money. The three games being played were League of Legends, Starcraft II: Heart of the Swarm, and Call of Duty: Black Ops II.

The Call of Duty tournament involved 192 amateur teams playing in a double elimination open bracket, and 12 professional teams playing in a separate championship bracket for a first place prize of $20,000.

This time around, the Starcraft tournament at MLG did not have an open bracket, but instead held the first major tournament for the new Starcraft expansion pack, Heart of the Swarm, in a 32 player single elimination tournament featuring players from Korea, Europe, and North and South America.

The League of Legends portion was actually made up of 3 separate events. The first was a four team tournament featuring four amateur teams competing for a spot in this summers LCS Summer Promotion Tournament, where they will play for a spot in the second half of this year's LCS season.
The second tournament of the weekend was an international exhibition tournament played among 2 North American Teams, Curse and Dignitas, 1 Russian team, Gambit Gaming, and 1 Korean Team, KT Rolster B. The third LoL event this weekend was the weekly LCS matches among the top 8 North American Teams. Here is a preview below:

LCS Super Week!

The League of Legends Championship Series gets really exciting this week with what is being known as "Super Week." What is Super Week? Well during most of the regular season of the LCS, 8 matches will be played among the 8 teams over 2 days in each region. During Super Week however, 20 matches will be played across 3 days in each region with an overlap of games between regions on Friday. This comes out to a total of 40 different matches over a course of 5 days!

Super Week was implemented to add excitement to the league standings. Each team will be playing 4-5 games this week, and by the time it's all said and done the ladder we see next week could look entirely different.

On the North American side, will Curse be able to maintain their perfect 8-0 record, or will another team crush their hopes of remaining undefeated. Will Good Game University get out of the 1-9 slump they've been in, or stay at the bottom of the stsandings.

The teams on the European ladder are much tighter in their wins/losses, with the top 5 teams being no more than 2 wins apart. The only team without at least two wins are the Copenhagen Wolves who currently have a 0-8 record. This week may be their last chance to prove that they belong in the league.
